Theatre of the Winged Unicorn is a creative fringe theatre company, created by Elaine and Dennis Mitchell. It is located at Ceres in the Barrabool Hills west of the bayside city of Geelong, Victoria, Australia. It has a varied program but favours work from the 19th c classics, performing works by Dickens, Eliot, Bronte, Hardy, Austen to name a few and also the works of Gilbert and Sullivan. Performances are held in the historic sandstone Ceres Hall ( circa 1862) where a delicious country supper is served at interval, and in the studio known as The Scarecrow Patch in the village.

  • What the Dickens! A selection of scenes from 12 of Charles Dickens' novels linked with English folk Song.
  • Devised and directed by Elaine Mitchell. Performed at Ceres and also at  the Dickens' Fellowship in Melbourne for his 200th birthday celebrations in Feb 2012

  • “The Unexpected Guest” by Agatha Christie Directed by Dennis Mitchell in October. 
  • “Confusions” by Alan Ayckbourn Directed by Elaine Mitchell in May

  • “The Duke” A Cafe Concert celebrating the music of Duke Ellington in  August
  • “Something Childish But Very Natural” from the works of Katherine Mansfield Directed by Amelia McBride in June
  • “The Hollow” by Agatha Christie Directed by Dennis Mitchell in May

  • “HMS Mikado”  Devised and Directed by Dennis Mitchell in October
  • “At Home With Hoagy” Café Concert celebrating the works of Hoagy Carmichael Winter Solstice
  • “The Tempest” by William Shakespeare Directed and Designed by Elaine Mitchell in May
